Lithuania Jogaila Bagdonavičius – g
The group formed just two months ago and won a special prize in the competition for the best interpretation of a jazz standard. Ofisas is a select group of talented students from the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius and graduates of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The members of this ensemble, performing music across a range of genres and styles, also share the stage in other projects, as evidenced by this competition. In the finals, the ensemble will perform Jogaila Bagdonavičius’ composition Padavėja (Waitress). Guitarist Jogaila Bagdonavičius combines his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius with an active concert career. He has performed with fellow students at Birštonas Jazz Festival and Kaunas Jazz Festival, and last year competed in the VJYP finals with the band Oficialūs kaimo kliedesiai. Jogaila also performs in various cities across Lithuania with Morta Miglinaitė, a singer and his classmate from his days at the Kaunas Conservatoire. Their duo, Morta ir Jogaila, performs original and popular music. The musician is also involved in teaching. Singer Dominyka Grigonytė, a graduate of the Vilnius Conservatoire, is continuing her studies in popular music at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. She collaborates with various instrumentalists as well as jazz and pop music ensembles, performs at student and city events. Davit Avetisyan is a composer and saxophonist of Armenian origin living in Lithuania. He earned his Master’s degree from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and has won awards in various competitions, including first prize in Petras Vyšniauskas’ National Saxophone Competition (2022). Davit performs regularly with his own progressive jazz ensemble, 21st Century Quintet, as well as other groups. Alongside various musical partners, he has performed at Lithuania’s leading jazz festivals, toured Norway and Moldova, and has been a finalist in the VJYP competition on several occasions. Saxophonist Artiom Zalizko has been returning to Kaunas Jazz, Vilnius Jazz, Vilnius Mama Jazz and Loftas Fest for many years in a row. Since his study years at the Vilnius Conservatoire and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, he has been an active figure on the jazz and alternative music scenes. In 2018, Artiom won a special prize at the VJYP competition for the best original composition and was named “Discovery of the Competition”, whilst this year he has been voted the competition’s best instrumentalist. Currently, in addition to The Moving, the saxophonist plays in the progressive music groups KZK on TV and SynthEtika, and teaches at the GSG music studio. Even though, Paulius Balčytis studied classical trombone, he plays a wide-ranging repertoire from Baroque to experimental jazz, punk, pop and electroacoustic music. He also composes instrumental music, original songs and audiovisual performances. As a member of the band Oficialūs Kaimo Kliedesiai, he won an award for an original composition at the VJYP competition last year. Jovaras Šiekštelė is studying classical trombone at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, but is also actively involved in jazz, alternative and improvisational music projects. He is a member of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the band Mood Sellers, creates audiovisual and electroacoustic performances. As a session musician, Jovaras assists alternative music artists in concerts and on recordings. Bassist Domas Dragūnas started his musical journey in Gragždai and is currently studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. Domas takes part in projects with various ensembles, including Vilnius JJazz Ensemble and KJ Collective. He has performed with hip-hop celebrity Toki Wright, TOS, guitarist Johnny Biner and other renowned musicians. This year, Dragūnas ripped laurels in the bass guitar category at the Guitar Day ’26 guitar competition. The musician has founded a public institution dedicated to the art of the bass guitar and the promotion of his music in Lithuania. Matas Barila is one of the most promising drummers of the younger generation. He won the Grand Prix at the National Young Drummers Competition; last year he came second at the international Drum Day drumming competition, and this year he garnered first prize.
The drummer graduated from S. Šimkus Conservatoire in Klaipėda and is currently studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. He combines studying with playing in the band Midnight Harbour and other projects. |
