Lithuania Aironas Genutis – p
The quartet brings together resourceful musicians from Vilnius and Klaipėda. It was only formed this year, but has already released the group’s pianist’s debut album, Awakening. Aironas Genutis’ composition Zaps, which will be performed in the competition finals, was recognised by the jury as the best original composition. Pianist and composer Aironas Genutis began his musical journey at the Juozas Karosas Music School in Klaipėda. He has been awarded a scholarship for young talent by Klaipėda City Council and has performed at the Klaipėda Castle and Kretinga jazz festivals. This autumn, Aironas commenced jazz studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. Saxophonist Gintarė Tumaitė is the most experienced musician in the group. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in saxophone at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and furthered her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, as part of an exchange program. Gintarė is currently involved in international projects, collaborates with foreign performers and composes. Bassist Domas Dragūnas started his musical journey in Gragždai and is currently studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. Domas takes part in projects with various ensembles, including Vilnius JJazz Ensemble and KJ Collective. He has performed with hip-hop celebrity Toki Wright, TOS, guitarist Johnny Biner and other renowned musicians. This year, Dragūnas ripped laurels in the bass guitar category at the Guitar Day ’26 guitar competition. The musician has founded a public institution dedicated to the art of the bass guitar and the promotion of his music in Lithuania. Drummer Matas Kairys is studying at the Stasys Šimkus Conservatoire in Klaipėda. In addition, he is engaged in different professional activities such as collaborating with young artists in Vilnius and Klaipėda, and taking part in jazz sessions and masterclasses. Matas performs with various Lithuanian ensembles and international artists; he has sided the Danish bassist and composer Kenneth Dahl Knudsen as well as the Lithuanian artist GØYA. Following his impressive performance at this year’s VJYP auditions, Kairys was named “Discovery of the Competition”. |
