On 18 October at 17.00, Thierry Quénum will give a lecture in English The Art of the Arrangers. The lecturer compares the art of the arranger to the work of a (great) couturier who dresses a body in a tailor-made outfit that will transcend its appearance. The art of the arranger is lesser-known work than that of a composer or a soloist. Yet it is often indispensable, requiring specific skills. Quénum will talk about the challenges of arranging, the subtleties of the genre, the historical development of the art, and the European and American traditions of arranging.

Thierry Quénum is a member of the author team of the French Jazz Academy and the Dictionary of Jazz published by Robert Laffont Publishing. He graduated in Modern Literature and English from the University of Paris Nanterre (formerly known as Paris X), and in the late 1980s began to express himself as a freelance journalist in the French and international media. His texts in French and English have been published by influential record labels and jazz festivals. In 2006–2008, Quénum taught a course on listening to and writing about jazz at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. He has been a jury member of the prestigious awards Django d’Or (France) and the European Jazz Prize (Austria). Quénum lectures on jazz in various European countries.
